New Year, New me!
It’s December 31 and everyone is getting ready to bring in the new year. From fireworks to champagne, shiny dresses and the ball drop in time square. The new year brings in new opportunities. But let’s be honest, what does it really take for us to really change in the new year?
As the responsibilities pile up and life starts to take over as humans we adapt and develop a routine that best suits us and habits start to form that just allow us to survive. I know first hand how we can get caught up on just surviving and forget to actually live. We also forget our Goals and Dreams because we start believing that they will become unattainable. And I know we hear it over and over but in order to obtain what our hearts desire we really must change our Mindset and habits to create a new routine.
The New Year, New you really starts when you change your mindset. When you start believing that you deserve the life you imagine. When you change the habits that are holding you back. Here are some of the things that I have been implementing in my life over the past year that really have helped me stay on track.
- I write my wants in the present tense. Write down 300 things that you want to accomplish in your lifetime. 300, don’t stop til you get there. Now this was hard for me because I could not imagine 300 things that I wanted to accomplish. This proved to me how small minded I really was. But once you finish your list read it every morning and everynight. That is it, Simple. Give it one year and watch how many you cross off at the end of the year. Now this is my first year doing this and I stated in October 2020, I will keep you updated
- Vision Board. I make my vision board every year. My board goes hand in hand with my Goals and wants. I always make it visually appealing and place it in my home where I look at it every day. This keeps my vision centered on my Goals.
- I will write my Goals down. Then I break my Goals down into quarterly mini Goals. This way my Goals become more obtainable and manageable. This also gives me a reason to celebrate little achievements.
- I use a planner. Yes, I am old school and use a pen and paper planner. Writing things down helps me remember. This also helps with my creative side and I am able to color, draw and use stickers to make it appealing. And let’s be honest with trying to run a business, doing household chores, a teenager that does football and band and all the appointments and date nights it gets overwhelming. So writing things down helps so nothing falls through the cracks. Now my planner also has my schedule so I can make sure I get my workout in and my meal plans so we eat healthy.
- I clean my home from top to bottom. Now hear me out. I clean throughout the year and I tidy up every day but the last week of the year I take time to really deep clean. I clean every corner and make sure that I declutter as I go. Getting rid of things that we no longer use or that can be donated. By taking the time to get my home clean it allows me to start the new year with a clear beginning. I am able to do this one room at a time, one day at a time. Don’t get overwhelmed when doing this. Make a list of all the rooms in your home with cleaning duties and check them off as you complete. I am not here to tell you what “clean” is. Clean looks different for everyone but my instagram has a list of things I make sure I do in the last week of the year.
Now these are the main things I make sure I get done in the last quarter of the year. I do this usually before Christmas so I can enjoy the holidays with my family. I challenge you to implement some of these in your life and see how these small things make a big difference. I also challenge you to keep me accountable. It always helps when you have people in your corner keeping you on track. Follow me on Social Media (@buenovega_a) to see my journey.
